Langtang Valley Trek Route
Embarking from Kathmandu, the Langtang valley, dominated by Langtang Lirung, is the closest way to see the sights of snowcapped mountains and frozen glaciers. The trail generally starts from Syabrubesi and leads you past the Lama Hotel, Langtang Village, and the ancient monastery of Kyanjin Gompa, situated near Tserko for the next few days.
Also known as the valley of glaciers trek, this trail offers superb panoramic views of Langtang Range – Dorje Lakpa, Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, Langtang Lirung, and Shishapangma. We spend a day resting and perhaps hiking to the top of Tserko Ri to enjoy glorious views of sunrise and sunsets. Revitalized, we attempt to summit Yala peak and then retrace our steps back to base camp afterward. We make our way through the rhododendron-laden paths back to Langtang village through the oak, pine, and maple forests.
We enjoy the warmth and hospitality of the locals as we pass through numerous Tamang and Sherpa villages on our way. Their unique culture, tradition, and lifestyle will be an interesting experience, especially for newcomers. Our journey comes to an end as we trek all the way back to Dhunche and catch a bus to the capital.
The Langtang Valley trek can be performed as a tea house or camping trek. It is a moderate difficulty trek, with most of the trail being fairly easy and the only challenging part being the ascent to Yala Peak. It is a good experience for both first-timers and experienced climbers alike. The Langtang region was devastated by the brunt of the force of the 2015 Nepal earthquake. The locals have been steadily rebuilding what they can, but life is still not easy there. You will be directly contributing to their efforts through the local economy just by visiting.
